We lament that Jordan doesn't talk as much as her brother does. She is much more affectionate, much more willing to stay still but much less chatty or so we thought. Evan has had a cough the last couple of days. This morning, we decided that Evan should not go to church and then out for lunch because he'd been up coughing much of last night and the poor boy did look a little bit ill this morning.
So it was divide and conquer this morning. Packrat would stay with Evan and I would take Jordan to church. It was perfect father-son, mother-daughter bonding time. The thing about having twins is that whenever we only need to bring one out, we think that it's such a holiday for us.
Anyway, surprising me in the car was Jordan. Usually she just stares out the window, occasionally chipping in to conversation that her brother is having with the both of us. Today, she talked all the way to church. And sang too. And usually, she will demand that I carry her but since I was alone with her, I told her that if I carried her for too long, my tummy would hurt and she gamely walked most of the way to church.
What really cracked me up was after church, a walk that usually takes 5 minutes took her half an hour because she stopped to play with everything. She also asked for the strangest things.
Jordan: Mommy find stick.
Me: What stick?
Jordan: Mommy find big stick. Jordan want big stick.
Me: Why does Jordan want a big stick?
Jordan: Cos Jordan is T
ai-Kong (her great grandfather who goes out with an umbrella all the time).
Me: Can Mommy give you a twig?
Jordan: No, Jordan want BIG (emphasis on the BIG) stick.
Me: Is this stick long enough? (picking up a stick about 10 cm taller than she was)
Jordan: Yes.
Me: What's the magic word?
Jordan: (grinning at me) Magic word.
Me: What must Jordan say when Mommy gives her the stick?
Jordan: Magic word!

Jordan: Jordan want leaf.
Me: Why?
Jordan: Jordan hot. Jordan want big leaf. (proceeds to find a big leaf, sits on the kerb and fans herself)

Me: (Watching her walk and bang her stick as she walks) Jordan, are you Moses?
Jordan: Yes. Moses. No toes.
Me: No toes?
Jordan: No toes. Roses.
Dawns on me that she is talking about the nursery rhyme where Moses supposes his toes-es are roses.
While all this was happening, Evan had taken the bus with his father into town, rode on the escalator for half an hour in an empty shopping mall and rode the double decker bus home. Both were thrilled and seemed to compare notes once they got back together.
Both of us, were happy that we had a little bit of bonding time with each child and so were they because they quite happily waved us off when we told them we had to go out for lunch.
