Tennessee general manager Mike Reinfeldt said Friday the Titans are unlikely to re-sign wide receiver Randy Moss, according to a report in the Tennessean.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Police say San Diego Chargers linebacker Antwan Applewhite was arrested for investigation of DUI on Friday morning.

In an interview with WDAM-TV of Laurel, Mississippi on Thursday, former Vikings QB Brett Favre said he was "starting a new career" and expressed an interest in coaching or television work at some point, but he expressed no clear-cut plans for his future.

"I don't know," Favre said in a interview clip on the WDAM-TV website. "I really don't know. Could be coaching, could be TV. Both of those are probably unlikely, at least anytime soon. I don't see myself becoming a full-time coach any time soon at any level."

Favre also indicated to WDAM-TV that he intended to stay retired.

"I played 20 years. There's nothing left for me to do," he said.

Favre did tell WDAM-TV that there were certain things he would miss about football. While saying that while he never much liked two-a-day practices, he noted, "I'm sure there will come a point where I miss that. I'll always miss the guys in the lockerroom. Winning and losing together and those type of things, there's no substitute for that."

In the interview, Favre said he has done some traveling and enjoyed being home.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton said Friday he met privately with Minnesota Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf to discuss state funding of a new football stadium, and that he hoped a site would be picked soon as the list of possibilities narrowed to two.

Chargers LB Antwan Applewhite was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to 10news.com in San Diego.

He was arrested Friday morning at 4:09 a.m., with bail set at $2,500. Applewhite has been on the Chargers since 2007 and played his college ball at San Diego State.

Applewhite, 25, played in 16 games with 13 starts last year, recording 48 tackles, three sacks and two passes defensed. He is set to be a restricted free agent.

The Chargers released the following statement:

"It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Antwan Applewhite. We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."

Because of the lockout, the Chargers cannot have any contact with Applewhite.

 

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals did not make a decision on Friday on whether or not to grant the NFL a permanent stay of U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson's decision to lift the lockout until the June 3 case is heard.

The court, comprised of Judges Duane Benton, Kermit Bye and Steven Colloton, voted 2-1 (Bye dissented) to grant the league a temporary stay of Judge Susan Nelson's ruling to end the lockout on April 29.

Nelson originally rejected the league's request for a stay after her April 25 decision to end the lockout. That opened doors to team facilities on April 28, but the temporary stay was granted late the next day.

There are reports that the league and players expect the judges to maintain the stay until the June 3 hearing. That hearing date was expedited on a request from the NFL.

The court can also choose not to rule, and remain in a holding pattern of this temporary stay until the appeal is heard.

The lockout began on March 11 after the union decertified following the owners' and players' inability to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. On May 12, Judge David Doty hold a hearing in the lockout insurance case. On May 16, the two sides are supposed to return to federally mediated negotiations with Chief Magistrate Arthur J. Boylan in U.S. District Court.

Sports Business Journal's Daniel Kaplan wrote on his Twitter that the court is putting off its decision on a full stay until Monday at the earliest.

The way we see it

It's assumed that the expedited date on the appeal hearing would make it more likely for the stay to remain intact. However, it continues to put off all transactions, and players drafted last week are currently unemployed, and most of them are without the ability to get to know the playbook or get to know their new teammates. Rookie minicamp would normally be going on this week.

Doty's hearing and the mediations are crucial dates to keep in mind before the June 3 hearing, as both could turn the leverage tables when it comes to negotiating a new CBA.

The Buccaneers found a potential replacement for MLB Barrett Ruud, who is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, drafting Mason Foster in the third round (84th overall).

In a post-draft interview, PFW asked Bucs GM Mark Dominik if the addition of Foster has any bearing on Ruud's future with the team.

"It may," he said. "(We're waiting to) figure out what the rules are in free agency and what that all means. Certainly, I think Mason is a quality player and I think he can step into the lineup and play any one of the three linebacker positions for us."

While Foster can play all three LB spots, Dominik said the plan for him is to take snaps in the middle.

"We're going to end up starting (Foster) inside and letting him compete there first, but I do like the versatility factor," Dominik said. "I'm excited about him, particularly in the third round. That was a good fill in many ways for us."

Ruud has been an every-week starter for the Bucs since 2007 and has made at least 114 tackles in each of the past four seasons. However, his asking price for a new deal has been higher than the Bucs are willing to go, a situation that has left Ruud frustrated with the team.

Already adept at shifting identity from play to play, the Packers' offense might have become even more difficult to pigeonhole with the addition of second-round WR Randall Cobb. The 5-10, 191-pounder out of Kentucky was considered by many close observers to be the most versatile player available in this year's draft. The consensus among team insiders is that Cobb, who is capable of contributing in five different capacities (wide receiver, running back, return man, holder and quarterback), is likely to make the biggest initial impact for the Packers from this year's rookie crop.

If free agent James Jones splits the scene, Cobb still shapes up as merely the No. 4 receiver behind No. 1 Greg Jennings, up-and-coming Jordy Nelson and the aging but still determined Donald Driver. But considering his diverse skills, an effort figures to be made to give Cobb at least a few potential big-play opportunities per game. Could any of those opportunities be of the "Wildcat" variety, which Cobb was involved in on occasion at Kentucky? The way we hear it, it would be a major surprise if head coach Mike McCarthy decided to add a "Wildcat" package to the Packers' already expansive arsenal. 

Look for Cobb to definitely make his presence felt right away on special teams, where we're told he will get every opportunity to become the No. 1 return man on both kickoffs and punts for a unit that ranked 26th on kickoff returns and 22nd on punt returns in 2010.

The Bills promoted Doug Whaley to assistant GM/director of player personnel on Friday, two days after relieving Tom Modrak of his duties.

Whaley, who joined the Bills last February as the team's assistant GM/director or pro personnel, is heading into his 16th NFL season. He now will oversee both the college and pro personnel departments for the Bills.

Whaley will report directly to GM Buddy Nix. According to a press release from the team, "the Bills are continuing to re-evaluate and reorganize the personnel department."
