S/N 35709 - Afromosia fluted plinth, Valhalla supply, smoked lid, Linn mounting. Lid has a feint crack and a small dink at the front and will also need new hinges but otherwise the deck is in pretty good nick for its age and is working perfectly. It is just kicking around (not literally!) here so may as well go to a good home - a good deck to get started on, ready for lovely Linn upgrades and tinkering! This is fun. I am discovering all kinds of Blue Note jazz these days. Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Clark, Art Blakey, Grant Green, on and on. One of the treasures, and I know they have been discussed here, are the original Ron McMaster CDs. They are generally common and, therefore, cheap, and they sound great. I've been buying them up at local shops. Great stuff. I just got done playing the McMaster version of Lee Morgan The Sidewinder. It's great, musically and sonically. I'm sure the Analogue Productions SACD is tops, and I will get it eventually, but the McMaster CD is great for $5-6. Now playing is the original McMaster Sonny Clark Sonny's Crib CD. This is another winner. Outstanding album, and the sound is great here. I also have the Connoisseur Series and Japanese BN Works CDs for comparison, but I would be surprised if they were significantly better than the original McMaster disc. I don't think one can have too much Blue Note jazz. There is a lot of it out there, but it's all good. :)

I have noticed that if I make an AIFF copy of a purchased AAC file from iTunes it wipes clean the purchase info and then I can transfer back into the preset 'iTunes Plus' AAC setting. Now, obviously, I'm wise enough to know that this will not give me any better sound quality to a file that has already been degraded from the original encoding. My question is this: will my new AAC file be identical to the original file; digitally speaking.

If some of you will recall back in the fifties/sixties Downbeat magazine used to have these blindfold reviews/critiques. The idea being they would play an album by an artists ( This is all jazz ) and have a well known great listen and review it. They could most of the time know who the players were by their style of playing. But were not told. They could offend a friend,but that seldom happened. It was great. You would have say Kenny Burrell listen to Wes and immediately everyone knew the outcome,as Wes was so stylistic with the octaves. They would nail it 90% of the time as to who was playing. Horn players knew the other players and their rhythm sections were the only thing they may have doubt about,but still they got most of the whole section right. It was not a bad mouth your fellow musician kind of thing. It was very civil and no ego crap. It would be intereting to have that kind of thing now,but impossible with the state of music in general in the pop format. Those were the days when everyone would be playing with different rhythm sections,especially in piano trios. Just a though and a pretty bad one at that. It could not work in a pop format ...

I had a great result with a Furutech fuse in the psu of my MW tube Oppo where it gave a lot more definition and a larger soundstage and figure you should experience similar results in your 36.5.  Is an excellent value upgrade!

Thousands of dollars of tweaks seems a bit counter intuitive for a $110 receiver.  I did try my DIY ground control pigtails and it deadened the sound too much.  Others may have different results.
