Kiloo's new Frisbee(R) app for iOS gives geeks a safe environment to toss the disc (so no more broken windows or dents in the lawn). We managed to keep that little blue saucer parallel to the ground for several seconds during our hands-on. It even flew through one or two of those enormous black and white hoops (enormous relative to the finger-nail-size frisbee). Many of the interface elements feel like they were borrowed from Angry Birds, from buttons and other graphics, to the way you progress through levels. This brought a certain familiarity to the game, though gently sliding a Frisbee(R) across the screen is arguably much less addictive than catapulting feathered fowl to their explosive deaths. Whoops. If you'll recall, Sony held what can only be described as an emergency press event in Japan a week ago in order to issue a number of assurances about the resumption of service as it relates to the PlayStation Network and Qriocity. Seven days later, things are still as dead as they were pre-Cinco de Mayo. This evening, the company's Senior Director of Corporate Communications Patrick Seybold punched out a quick update to let the world know that they could actually leave the house and find something else to entertain 'em -- like it or not, PSN isn't coming back online today. The reason? On May 1st, Sony was apparently "unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers," and now, it's spinning its wheels in order to restore security on the network and "ensure" that user data is safe. Mr. Seybold seems to understand that you're overly anxious about getting back into the swing of things, and he's even going so far as to ask your trust that Sony's doing "everything [it] can" to get the lights blinking once more. Oh, and if you were planning on visiting that source link just to find the new ETA... don't. Sony's planning to update you "as soon as it can."

A leak Friday night confirmed that T-Mobile is lining up a more direct replacement for the Samsung Vibrant. The Exhibit 4G would be a close relative of the Galaxy S Plus and use its 1.4GHz processor, five-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3, but with some conspicuous upgrades and downgrades. Sony might offer a cash reward to whoever could turn in those who hacked into the PlayStation Network. Some folks who managed to get their hands on Samsung’s upcoming 4G Android phone for AT&T, the Infuse 4G, before everyone has some good news to report. While playing around with the Application settings of the phone, they’ve discovered that the phone has the ability to enable the installation of apps from unknown sources – apps not download from the Android Market.

This is great news for users looking forward to purchase the phone because this restriction that is present on previous AT&T phones didn’t let users install apps if they weren’t available on the market. And the only way to bypass this restriction was to root the phone, which is a task too daunting for most smartphone users out there.

Seeing how the Android Market distributes malicious apps anyway, disabling the option wasn’t going to make the Android experience any safer for AT&T users. No word on when this feature will roll out to all existing phones (if at all), but when it does, unrooted users will finally get to install all the apps they previously couldn’t due to the restriction. And that includes the Amazon App Store for Android.

When touchscreen tablets were introduced to the world, people had to get used to a totally new method of computing, with the use of different multi-touch gestures to recreate certain functionalities that were normally done by a mouse and/or keyboard. While some functions were easier to perform with gestures, people still pined for the mouse as an additional input device.

Well the folks at Cnet recently got a demonstration of a prototype of an upcoming tablet accessory called The Ringbow: a ring-mounted, wireless pointing stick. It is basically a mini d-pad joystick that’s attached to a ring mount which you wear on your finger. Using your thumb to operate the joystick, you can easily use additional functions in an app by pressing  the controller in one of four directions (up, down, left, right).

When Google Voice and Sprint’s integration launched earlier this week, a lot of folks were happy with the functionality they got without having to change their Sprint numbers (some were happy they could change it) but a whole bunch of users were stuck, unable to use the service or even get it to work they way they wanted it to. According to some rumors online, Activision will be announcing a new Call of Duty game next week and it won’t be another single player installment to the series. The next CoD game will apparently be an online-only version of Activision’s hit first person shooter franchise. Tentatively called Call of Duty Online, it is also speculated to run on a Free-to-Play business model similar to how Battlefield Play4Free works.

If CoD’s massive fanbase is anything to go by, the online version of the game should be a hit from the get go – provided that Activation pulls it off correctly. After all, EA has publicly challenged CoD by saying that Battlefield 3 is superior in every way – it’s only fair if EA brings the battle onto their turf. Well like all rumors, take it with a pinch of salt. Next week is on its way anyway, and we shouldn’t have to wait too long if it turns out to be true. Earlier this week we wrote about rumors of a new ultrathin laptop from Dell that is slated to be released within the next few weeks. Today, some photographs of the rumored laptop have found their way onto the internet, courtesy of Mobile Review. The laptop is supposedly named the XPS 15z, and from the leaked photographs, it sure looks like a beauty.

Featuring an uncommon layout for the laptop’s bottom half – the Dell XPS 15z’s keyboard is flanked by two speakers (the grille does look large, but we can’t tell if it’s the size of the actual speaker or just a design). It also has two USB ports, a FireWire port and an HDMI output. The laptop will have a 15.6″ screen and will be powered by the latest Core i5 and i7 processors. In an interview with PC Mag yesterday, AT&T talked about their future smartphone plans on their network. One of the most interesting points AT&T’s senior vice president of mobile devices, Jeff Bradley mentioned that AT&T will no longer block non-Android Market apps from being installed onto the device. He was quoted as saying:

“I think we’ll go more open. First and foremost we were genuinely concerned from a network bandwidth standpoint and a customer experience standpoint for not having any mechanism to take down a bad app. And the only way we could do it at the time was relying on Google to leverage what [security] they had in [the] Android Marketplace. We took a lot of negative publicity for doing it, but it was 100 percent driven by a desire to be able to have the ability to support our network and be able to help our customers. It really was.”

This explains a lot about why the upcoming Samsung Infuse 4G has the ability to load apps from unknown sources. It looks like users will finally be able to install the Amazon App Store for Android, and even games from Gameloft and EA who don’t put their games up on the Android Market. Good news for future Android owners on the carrier. Now let’s hope AT&T releases a fix for their current devices as well…unless it’s part of AT&T’s plan to get users to purchase new Android phones. In this week’s installment of 101 ways to use your Kinect we have the motion gaming controller from Microsoft giving us the ability to play poker. The folks over at Poker Listings made use of the open-source Kinect software available out there, and with the use of some macros, configured the Kinect to recognize the gestures to play online poker. Folding, checking, placing a bet, and even raising can all be done with simple hand motions.

While admittedly it looks silly playing poker standing up, waving your hands like a mad man, it does make the game a lot healthier. After all, instead of sitting in front of the computer and clicking mouse buttons, you’re standing and actually using energy waving your arms all over the place.
