Is it possible to boot a DH55TC + i7-870 processor with no video card installed?

I'm trying it but my system doesn't boot. I'm only getting the video error beep pattern.

According to the Intel® Desktop Board DH55TC Technical Product Specification I'd undestood it was possible.

I see that vPro is very useful and might consider to purchase this technology along when purchasing my new workstation,but i have lack of understanding in the case where vPro allows remote dianogsis and repair on the computer, how does this work to ensure that all my sensitive/personal data such as files, drawings etc on the pc/hard drive is protected from being stole, view, copy etc from the person who helps repairs/diagnose the workstation remotely.

Wondering if anyone can answer this.  I am wanting to set up a three drive system on a GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R board (with ICH10R).  What I would like to do would be to have a Flash SSD for the System / OS, and then a RAID 1 for other Apps / Data.  So:

1 x SSD = Non-RAID, used for System / OS

2 x HD  = RAID 1, used for apps / data

Can the X58 chipset, with ICH10R run this sort of combination of drives with some in a RAID configuation and some not in a RAID configuration?

We've got a DH57jg motherboard, and we're trying to get it to work with an ELO serial touch screen.  We're running Windows Embedded 7.

The serial port is enabled in the BIOS, the ELO touch screen detects "COM 1" and loads the drivers successfully.  Windows 7 Device manager shows the ELO touch screen device (under "Mice") and shows COM1 as "enabled" (9600 baud, 8 bits, etc).  No errors or warnings anywhere.

But no data, either.  It's exactly as though nothing is plugged in.

We've tried different devices (like serial mice and external modems), we tried different cables - nothing.

Is there any magic to getting the serial header to work????

The current drivers for the Intel RS2WC080 that are listed as supporting the RS2WC080 don't actually support the LSISAS2008 MegaRAID chipset under Solaris. Looking at the driver download itself it even specifically mentions that "LSISAS2008 specific code" was removed from the latest revision. See below:

Looking at the OpenSource code for this driver floating around it only attaches to PCI-IDs:

I have an i7 laptop that I wanted to put on my desktop mobo that can take i7 and i7 extereme processor. Is this possible? I don't really need the laptop because the screen is too small for my games. Please let me know.

My question is who should provide the driver for the ramdrive and is it possible to include it on the BIOS if it will be more elegant there.

Is it Dell for the BIOS approach?

Is it Intel since this is a very new product (I bought the kit with cables and bracket)?

Or is it microsoft? Since they OWN (And I think still own it)  the operating system

Instal OSTen?

Or just install a third party solution?

The reason am asking is I recently purchased a LAT2100 with 2 gig of RAM put the recently aquired 320 series 40 gig and install win7 ultimate SOFTWARE and find no difference in performance especially when saving files and using WEB.

I am very discouraged of spending money on technology so I want free driver. I bought this laptop on outlet because I need it for work (OWA, WEB VPN/RDP) and dont want to spend tons of money on technology.

I'm the owner of a Shuttle SP35P2 Barebone system (SP35P2, RAID switched on and configured), 2x 1TB hardrive, 8GB RAM, Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS 64 bit).

I have bought an eSATA drive but I'm not sure if I have to change the bios settings to use the eSATA ports on the back of my system. It seems that the ports currently are not activated.

Looking at the following topic ( http://us.shuttle.com/SCGFaq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=126 ) I should enable it from the BIOS (OnChip SATA Device) but I'm afraid that I can't use my RAID setup anymore after changing it.

Will I be able to enable the eSATA ports without influencing my RAID configuration? Is it supported? I'm running Ubuntu Linux version 10.04?

I´m still using an SS4000-E nas and i want to use raid 1 but in 2 "pairs" so disc 1+2 is one raid 1 and diskc 3+4 is another raid 1 - but i can´t get it funktion !.

I´ll not use raid 10 if that means data is spread between the disc´s , If the nas goes down , it would be much easier to get the data - even if one of the disc is bad!.Newer nas can run several raid 1 - is it not possible with SS4000-E ????

I have been running Prime95 (not the torture test) for 24 hours using Intel board DH67CL and a boxed CPU i7-2600k. Windows Task Manager indicates CPU usage about 50%. Turboboost runs at a steady 3.5ghz. IDU indicates processor temperature of fairly steady 77-79 deg C with fan speed ranging from 1205 to 1318rpm.

Is it normal for the temperature of the CPU to run at the top end of the operating range when the CPU usage is only 50%?

We have create a wireless package the wireless intel proset to connect to our private SSID using WP2/AES/802.1x and when the user is force to change the password at the next logon from AD the intel proset software takes over and tries to do the change of password instead of allowing windows and this does not work since every time you try changing it through the intel software it keeps saying that the username is incorrect.

I didnt have this problem with 12.4.

Any suggestions ?

I have only used the Intel Communities discusions once on 12-5-09, Down loading Marvell drivers to my DP55KG board, now I keep getting E-Mails stating log in and state your status. Being new to this community what does this mean and what should I do? Thanks

My broadband supplier has just enforced a change of router on me and I cannot make a wireless connection.   My operating system is Vista 32-bit, the wireless card as above and the new router is a ZyXel P660HW-B1A which has WPA-PSK security.  When I try to set up the connection, I am not offered this option for security, just WPA Personal and WPA2 Personal with TKIP encryption.  I have tried entering the security key using both of these options but it is not possible to connect and the error message says security key is incorrect.  I have double checked that I am entering this correctly.  Does this mean that the new router is incompatible with the 3945 ABG adaptor?

Problem,

I have Intel ss-4200e with 4 1TB Drives and it has been working fine for about 6 months. We had some bad storms and power was out for a couple days. We the power was restored system restarted and gave me 4 amer LED lights (4 Drive Failure). I did some seraching and found the four drive failure threads and attempted the various fixes. I logged in through Putty to check processes no help. I did a reset and it didn't help so I did factory reset and it briefly showed that drive 3 was the only amber led and then all four went amber, So I guessed that dirve 3 was bad. I ordered replacement and installed. I got four Blue LED lights for a few minuutes then they all went amber again. So. now I am stuck any suggestions?

I have a relatively new 510 series 250GB SSD by Intel

Problem: Secure Erased SSD in secondary windows install on another internal HDD. Secure Erase failed with no error message. Reboot PC to install windows to 510 series and:

The SSD shows up in windows installer screen

The SSD Is displayed on Windows Instal screen as a disk of unallocated space

Windows cannot be installed to the SSD because "it is not bootable"

The 510 Series SSD does not show up in device manager, my computer, or the drive list in Intel SSD Toolbox when ran from a secondary internal HDD/OS

I'm running off my backup windows partition but I wanna get everything installed back to the SSD, but Windows doesn't want to install to it, and its not detected in an installed envrionment at all

I have a laptop which runs an i5 520U CPU which supports a BGA1288 socket, and I would like to swap the CPU to a more powerfull one. most other CPUs that i have looked at support BGA1288 and a PGA988 sockets, I was therefore wondering whether I need to buy a CPU that is specifically designed for a socket, i.e. there are two versions of the same CPU one for each socket, or one CPU that is compatible with both of the sockets.

I have been doing R & D to finalize best possible stable and high performing combination of hardware components since last 20-25 days and are almost done with all combinations. But am stuck with above points. It would be really great if somebody from intel or any community member can help me in finding a solution to our problem by suggesting appropriate hardware with exact model number and configuration and a reference link from where we can get more information on product.

I just purchased an HP 2311x 23" LED Monitor.  I have a Dell Dimension E310 (Windows XP Pro, SP3) and the graphics card is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver and when I went into the Information section of the driver it says that 1920 x 1080 is a supported mode.  However, when I went into Display properties for the monitor and put the slider all the way to the end it only went to 1400 x 1050.  I went on Intel's site and ran their driver program and it said that my driver was current.  As I'm sure you can tell, I know nothing about graphics and how all that works. I'm assuming the 1920 x 1080 would make the graphics on the monitor clearer.  I've already downloaded the software from the CD that came with the monitor.  What else should I look at and is there a solution for this?  I want to get the best picture I can get and it seems to me if I can't get the recommended screen resolution then I'm not getting the full benefit of this monitor.

I noticed my Celeron 335 is running at 70C of late, will this cause any problems?

I removed a system board from an older PC and found a compatible replacement (Intel D865GLC).  I am trying to flash the bios using the iflash method so the newly installed board will be recognized.   I downloaded the designated file (BF86510A.86A.0077.P25.IB) and followed the instructions on this page: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-023358.htm#cdrom

First, using a writeable CD/DVD, I selected the IFLASH.EXE and P25-0077.BIO files per the instructions and wrote the files to the CD/DVD using ImgBurn.  I restarted the PC, tapped the F2 key, and selected the CD/DVD ROM as the first boot option but when I restarted the PC nothing happened.  Next, I tried using the floppy drive.  Per instructions, I selected the RUN.BAT file and followed the prompts to create a bootable floppy disk but upon reboot (selecting the floppy drive as first boot option) I received a Non-System Disk or Disk Error.  I tested the floppy drive and CD/DVD ROM and both work well.  I’ve been at this for a couple of hours with no luck so I figured it was time to ask for help!  Any further instructions, tutorials, etc. will be greatly appreciated; the Intel instructions are really no help at all.  Many Thanks!

Introduction

A friend who labels himself as “technologically adverse” recently took a big step and reluctantly upgraded from an “antique” flip-phone he had for 3 years to a new “high-tech” smartphone. He has joined the estimated 60 million other smartphone users in the US who can access their email, check stocks, listen to streaming music, watch streaming videos, etc. with the flick of a finger.

So what does this have to do with IEEE802.3az: Energy Efficient Ethernet or “EEE” (pronounced “triple-E”)? As the computing continuum of wireless and connected devices increases, consequently the datacenter must also scale to meet the increased data demand. The datacenter and its networking equipment is not the only target market; so is networked equipment. Consumer and enterprise computers, consumer electronics like set-top boxes, routers and other Ethernet applications are part of the ecosystem.

As the world becomes increasingly connected, there is the tradeoff of increased demand for power. In order to help curb this need, EEE is seen as an incremental step to reduce power consumption. A Lawrence Berkeley Labs researcher estimates that adoption of EEE in the networking and networked device markets would result in energy savings of $400 million or more per year in the US (Merritt, 2008).

What is EEE?

Energy Efficient Ethernet allows for an Ethernet device operating over twisted-pair cabling (100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T and 10GBASE-T) or electrical backplanes (1000BASE-KX, XAUI, 10GBASE-KX4 or 10GBASE-KR) to dynamically scale power consumption based on traffic load. This ability is the value proposition of 802.3az and is accomplished by a communication protocol called Low Power Idle (LPI) which is negotiated between a remote (server) and local (client) PHY at power up. LPI with be further explained in the next section.

Once LPI has been negotiated, the local PHY is allowed to enter a link state referred to as simply “LPI”. Conversely a non-EEE compliant PHY will remain in an idle state and, depending on the link speed, will consume up to 10 times more power than an EEE compliant PHY. But there is one caveat. In order to utilize EEE, the local and remote PHYs must both be EEE compliant.

The Intel® 82579 Gigabit Ethernet PHY is an 802.3az compliant part with the following power characteristics:

How does it Work?

The power savings from a purely percentage basis is significant, but how does EEE work? Let’s start off with the example of traffic flowing between a remote (server) and local (client) PHYs with network and switching equipment between them. As stated before, both devices will advertise and handshake the capability to support 802.3az at power up. Once the handshake is completed, the remote PHY knows it can initiate a LPI signature (figure 2) to the local PHY.

From figure 2, the LPI sleep and wake signals are initiated by the remote PHY between periods of activity. Once the local PHY is asleep, periodic refreshes are sent to the client in order to update adaptive filters and timing circuits in order to maintain link integrity. It is during the low-power state where power savings are realized at the local PHY because it is allowed to switch off part of the receive and transmit circuitry. Once there is data to be transmitted, the remote PHY sends a wake signal and data packets are then transmitted.

AreThere Any Drawbacks?

Performance using EEE with respect to latency is impacted. The total amount of latency for a sleep plus a wake is about 7.36µs. By comparison, at 10Gbps it takes 1.2µs to send a 1500 byte frame. The latency is created by  the overhead of sleep and wake transitions does not make this ideal for certain applications such as financial servic servers.

Another drawback is the inability for EEE compliant PHYs to utilize power saving technology when linked with non-EEE compliant PHY. First generation silicon that supports EEE was released in 2010 and will be fully functional  with non-EEE compliant silicon, but in order for LPI to be utilized there must be EEE compliant infrastructure to support the technology.

Summary

Smart energy use has become a focal point of customer sentiment, international laws and regulations, and corporate environmental stewardship and will continue to be a focal point of continuous improvement. Energy Efficient Ethernet is another step in allowing Ethernet connected devices to be more energy efficient. This technology may not be appropriate for every application, but there is a clear economic, social and environmental benefit.

I have a HP Z800 with a dual Xeon X5660. 2 x 6 cores x Hyperthreading = 24 logical processors.

In Windows 7 x64, calling GetSystemInfo returns 24 logical processors. Calling GetLogicalProcessorInformation also returns 24. (2 processor packages, 24 logical processors, 12 processor cores).

But calling __cpuid returns 32. I also get 32 even if I disabled hyperthreading in the BIOS.

CPU-Z reports the right information. In the task manager, I see 24 cpus.

I am trying to determine the affinity of each core so that I only run 1 thread per core (no collision between 2 logical processors running on the same core).

I have another machine with a dual Xeon E5520 (2 x 4 cores x Hyperthreading = 16 logical processors).

On the Xeon E5520, setting the affinity to 1, 2, 4, 8 will make the thread run on the first 4 cores while setting the affinity 16, 32, 64 and 128 will make the thread run on the next 4 cores.

On the Xeon X5660, setting the affinity from 1 to 32 will make the thread run on the 6 cores while setting the affinity to 64 to 2048 will make the thread run on different logical processors but on the same cores. Performance are much lower in that case.

I compiled a small program that I found on microsoft web site that shows an example of __cpuid and __cpuidex.

I made sure that I have the latest version of the BIOS and that all the chipset drivers are up to date according to the Intel Update Tool.

Tenemos el agrado de anunciarles un avance realmente significativo en materia de fabricación de procesadores. Por primera vez desde su invención, hace más de 50 años, los transistores de silicio comenzarán a construirse usando un revolucionario diseño en tres dimensiones, llamado Tri-Gate.

Este proceso permitirá que se comiencen a fabricar nodos de 22 nanómetros (nm) en procesadores de Intel con nombre código Ivy Bridge. Un nanómetro es la milmillonésima parte de un metro.

Los transistores tridimensionales Tri-Gate representan un cambio fundamental con relación a la estructura plana de los transistores de dos dimensiones, que ha sido la tecnología usada no sólo en computadoras, celulares y electrónica de consumo hasta la fecha, sino también en controles electrónicos de vehículos, naves espaciales, electrodomésticos, dispositivos médicos y, virtualmente, miles de otros dispositivos de uso común, por décadas.

Comparativa con la tecnología de 32nm

Los transistores 3-D Tri-Gate de Intel les permiten a los procesadores operar a un menor voltaje de salida con una menor pérdida, lo que proporciona una combinación sin precedentes de mejora del desempeño y eficacia energética. Estos transistores 3-D Tri-Gate de 22 nm ofrecen hasta un 37% de aumento del desempeño con bajo consumo energético, en comparación con los anteriores transistores planos de 32 nm de Intel.

Esta ganancia increíble significa que son ideales para su uso en pequeños dispositivos de mano, ya que pueden "alternar" de una posición a otra. Por otra parte, los nuevos transistores consumen menos de la mitad de la energía para obtener el mismo desempeño que los transistores 2-D en los chips planos de 32 nm, haciendo que las mejoras de desempeño y los ahorros de energía de los transistores 3-D no se parezcan a nada que hayamos visto antes.

¿Qué tiene que ver esto con la  Ley de Moore?

Los transistores continúan volviéndose más pequeños, más baratos y más eficientes desde el punto de vista energético, de conformidad con la Ley de Moore, que toma su nombre del cofundador de Intel Gordon Moore. Gracias a esto, Intel ha sido capaz de innovar e integrar, añadiendo más características y núcleos de cómputo a cada chip, aumentando el desempeño y disminuyendo los costos de fabricación por transistor.

El anuncio de hoy es el resultado de años de desarrollo en el marco del sistema altamente coordinado de investigación-desarrollo-fabricación de Intel y marca la implementación de este trabajo para la fabricación a gran escala.

Especificaciones de esta nueva tecnología

Los transistores 3-D Tri-Gate son una reinvención del transistor. La tradicional puerta "plana" de dos dimensiones se sustituye por una "aleta" de silicio tridimensional increíblemente delgada, que se eleva verticalmente desde el sustrato de silicio. El control de la corriente se lleva a cabo mediante la implementación de una puerta en cada uno de los tres lados de la aleta (dos en cada lado y una a través de la parte superior), en lugar de una sola en la parte superior, como en el caso de los transistores planos bidimensionales.

El control adicional permite dirigir tanto flujo de corriente al transistor como sea posible cuando el transistor está encendido (para obtener desempeño) o lo más cerca posible de cero cuando se encuentra en el estado de apagado (para minimizar el consumo energético).

Para las generaciones futuras, los diseñadores tienen la capacidad de seguir aumentando la altura de las aletas, con el objetivo de obtener un desempeño y ganancias de eficiencia energética aún mayores.

Por años hemos visto límites a cuán pequeños pueden volverse los transistores. Este cambio en la estructura básica es un enfoque verdaderamente revolucionario y debe permitir que la Ley de Moore, y el ritmo histórico de la innovación, continúen por largo tiempo.

¿Cuándo lo veremos?

El transistor 3-D Tri-Gate se implementará en el próximo proceso de fabricación de la compañía, llamado nodo de 22 nanómetros (nm), en función del tamaño de las características de transistores individuales. En el punto al final de esta frase podrían caber más de seis millones de transistores "tri-gate" de 22 nm.

Ya se mostraron los primeros micros de 22 nm del mundo en funcionamiento, cuyo nombre código es Ivy Bridge, funcionando en un laptop, en un servidor y en una computadora de sobremesa. Ivy Bridge será el primer chip producido a gran escala que usará transistores 3-D; está programado para entrar en producción a gran escala a finales de este año.

Este avance en tecnología de silicio también ayudará a entregar productos altamente integrados basados en procesadores Intel® Atom^TM, que escalen el desempeño, la funcionalidad y la compatibilidad de software de la arquitectura Intel, al tiempo que cumplen los requisitos de consumo energético general, costo y tamaño para una amplia gama de necesidades de segmentos de mercado.
