Gordon Maddern, a security researcher in Australia, has reported a serious hole in the current Mac version of Skype that could be exploited by an attacker to remotely take control of the computer, CNet says. Skype has since responded saying they had already issued a "hotfix" for the vulnerability but will release a formal update to address it next week, over a month after Maddern reported it to the company. Maddern is not releasing details of the "extremely dangerous" problem until Skype has fixed it, he said....

Google picked Friday to add Flash support to its Instant Previews feature even as it cautioned against using Adobe's plugin too heavily. The move lets users with a regular web browser see a Flash-heavy site's animations, layout, and videos in the quick view sidebar instead of plugin errors. The approach would work immediately for any site whose details were scraped by Google's regular bots but would be turned off when the preview had to be generated on-demand....

One rumor floating online late Thursday has contended that Apple would switch to ARM for the MacBook line. The claim from unnamed sources for SemiAccurate would have Apple wait until at least mid-2013 to use the first 64-bit ARM processors, like NVIDIA's Project Denver, and was supposedly talking to TSMC and others to get chip production. New data from comScore for this past March has pointed to Apple nearly passing RIM in smartphone market share for the US. Shipping 18.65 million iPhones helped Apple gain half a point since December to hit 25.5 percent share in its home country. Problems at LG Displays’ production lines may have played a part in Apple’s struggle to meet demand for the iPad 2, according to a new report. The idea behind the app is that you can turn your raw video footage from your iDevice into properly edited videos to share with your pals. And the best bit is that you can do it in just three easy steps. Firstly, you need to choose your video clips and/or photos from the library on your gadget. Secondly, you use your Apple gadget's camera to film yourself talking about the pictures or videos in your 'movie'. Then, thirdly, you select a song from your music library to use as the soundtrack.

Now you've done the easy stuff, the app takes care of the tricky bit by automatically editing together your original footage with your commentary to make a documentary-style video. You can then upload the finished article directly to Facebook or YouTube from the app and 'hey presto'! No more indeterminable video clips to baffle your mates with, just slick, well-edited movies.
